Oštro - The Poor Messenger

It blows from the south, although rarely on the Adriatic, but it can present a great problem to Boaters, especially on the open sea. This wind is warm and humid and does not usually blow for a long time. Although short-lived, it can be very sharp, as the name in Croatian suggests. It is characterized by high speeds, which sometimes reach stormy proportions.

Signs of ostro include a hazy and foggy horizon with clouds on the south-east or east travelling towards the north-west. Boaters should know that ostro is a transitional wind between the sirocco and leveche.
